With its unique landscapes, living traditions and world-famous heritage, the holiday and adventure region of Schwyz offersa variety of one-of-a-kind experiences right in the heart of Switzerland. As the cantonal tourism organisation, Schwyz Tourismus AG acts as a competence centre for the further development and coordination of tourism in the regions of Einsiedeln-Ybrig-Zürichsee, Mythen adventure region, Rigi and Stoos-Muota Valley.

As a basic building block of a multi-year digitalisation strategy, together with Inside Labs, a digital dashboard was set up which provides Schwyz Tourism and its partners with measurable, data-based key figures. The combination of data such as web traffic, social media reach, bookable offers, first-time arrivals or customer feedback provides a holistic picture of Schwyz Tourismus. Using practical tools, this data is made visible and interpretable without great complexity.

All trans-regional data flows together into a digital dashboard forming the basis for data-based management and further development of tourism in Canton Schwyz.

 

The Approach.

#1 Data Strategy

A basic concept was created defining which KPIs are relevant for the achievement of corporate goals and operational decisions.

#2 Data collection

Review of the technical requirements as well as the integration of different data sources of the involved regions and service providers into a central data collection.

#3 Data Visualisation

Review and selection of a suitable system infrastructure (Google Data Studio) for the dashboard. The dashboard is set up in line with the case and the collected data is clearly visualised.

#4 Data Evaluation

Time to Go-Live! All relevant stakeholders receive their own access to the dashboard and can evaluate the collected KPIs as a data basis for upcoming decisions.

The KPI Dashboard collects data from the various tourism regions and service providers, thus creating a data-based foundation for groundbreaking decisions in the further development of tourism in Canton Schwyz.

Milestones & Outlook.

The launch of the cantonal KPI dashboard is an important milestone on the path towards digital transformation of Schwyz tourism. There is an established collaboration with the involved regions and their service providers regarding data maintenance within the dashboard ensuring data quality and structure. All partners involved mutually benefit from the dashboard insights and are able to reach groundbreaking decisions from it.

In the coming months and years, Schwyz Tourismus would like to continue to integrate more partner data from the canton into the dashboard. The more service providers such as mountain operators are involved in the project, the more valuable and meaningful the data will become.

Schwyz benefits from the various projects and initiatives from the Luzern Vierwaldstättersee region. As a next phase of the digitisation strategy (continuing up to 2024) will be the development of new digital services and the emotionalisation and optimisation of guest communication, which will bring unique features of the Schwyz region closer to its visitors.
